We are a friendly and welcoming bunch at the Glengower. It’s hard work keeping this place running but Ian along with his team do a fantastic job of taking it in their stride and making it look so simple!
Meet the managers…
Ian Richards, General Manager
I have lived in Aberystwyth and managed the Glen for over 10 years now, how time flies! I was born in Chester and before moving to Aberystwyth I spent 8 years managing bars in various locations in the North West of England including many years in my home city of Chester.
When I am not at work you can generally find me at the RLNI lifeboat station where I have been a volunteer for 3 years now. I love the water and giving something back to the community. When I do get a bit of spare time I enjoy getting out on the water myself for a spot of fishing (you may even see the catch of the day on the specials board at the pub if it’s been a good day!!)
My favourite cuisine when I go out for dinner is Chinese, there is a fantastic restaurant near Chester that I still love to visit when I head back to see family and friends.
Jo Glover, Assistant Manager
I was born in Haverfordwest but brought up in Aberystwyth, I moved to Warwick for 4 years but I moved back to Aberystwyth because I missed the sea too much! I have worked at The Glengower for almost 6 years, I started here as a waitress and housekeeper, as I gained more valuable experience I worked my way up to Assistant Manager.
When I’m not working I enjoy getting out into the great outdoors, whether it’s a quiet walk along the coast or hiking up Snowdon (training to walk the Pennine Way!). I also enjoy relaxing with a good book or listening to my favourite music. When it comes to cuisine, I enjoy all types of food, but if I had to pick a favourite it would have to be Italian.
I’ve worked in this industry on and off for over 10 years. I enjoy working in the pub industry as you meet great new people in and out of work. I started out as a glass collector in a local caravan park and from there I just seem to have found myself working in pubs and hotels ever since!
Jon Beck, Head Chef
I am 23 years old and come from Machynlleth. I first started my career in the Brigands Inn as a KP at the age of 16. I was soon asked to join the kitchen team where I trained for 4 years working my way up to sous chef. I moved to The Glengower in 2015 where I found a brilliant team to settle with. Outside of work I like going out on my motorbike to explore the beauty of mid Wales or getting out and about doing some off roading.
My favourite cuisine is Italian, I find it so interesting using such delicate flavours but when it comes to my favourite dish to cook it must be the traditional roast beef dinner. When eating out I must say my favourite thing to eat must be lobster, such a beautiful and delicate meat but no meal is complete without a nice dessert.
In my kitchen the one utensil I couldn’t cope without is my Wusthof fish slice and the ingredients that I use in everything is salt and pepper, nothing beats a perfectly seasoned dish!
From the managers, to the front of house, the kitchen, the housekeeping, and the maintenance team, without them all it wouldn’t be possible to be the relaxing and outgoing pub that we all know and love.
