Ale a plenty at our annual Beer Festival and a cracking charity raft race this May bank holiday!

Ale a plenty at our annual Beer Festival and a cracking charity raft race this May bank holiday!

We would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who came along to the Glen over the bank holiday weekend to sample our beers and show support for our charity event.

Over the bank holiday weekend the Glengower hosted its annual beer festival featuring over a dozen real ales from near and far.  A couple of popular beers turned out to be ‘Gelert’ from Porthmadog’s Purple Moose brewery as well as ‘Cleric’s Cure’ from Three Tuns Brewery in Shropshire.   It was great to see so many visitors to the event (both old and new) with local CAMRA members enjoying the vast array of beers on offer.

The Sunday afternoon hosted the 2017 annual ‘Glengower Charity Raft Race’ with a great turnout and huge support for the event.  We could have done with a little more sunshine but this is Wales and a bit of dull weather will not dampen our spirits!!  So the race went ahead!!  With 9 teams entered and and a beach full of spectators to support them, it was sure to be a great race!  With the RNLI and Aberystwyth Surf Lifesaving on hand (just in case), it was time to get the race underway.  A fantastic effort was made from all of the teams with so much time and attention gone into the rafts not to mention the fancy dress to accompany the floating (mostly) vessels.

It’s not only a fantastic day for all of the family but also helps raise awareness for the fantastic work that the local RNLI do for Aberystwyth and the nearing towns.  Over £450 was raised for the charity on race day which shows the great support from the local community.

All in all the weekend was a huge success showing some great support for local events and local charities.  Here’s to 2018 and fingers crossed the sun is shining next year!
