We would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who came along to the Glen over the bank holiday weekend to sample our beers and show support for the event.
The Sunday of May bank holiday weekend saw the 2016 annual ‘Glengower Charity Raft Race’ with a fantastic turnout and huge support for the event. With 14 teams entered and what seemed like the whole of town out to support them, it was sure to be a great race! With the RNLI and Aberystwyth Surf Lifesaving on hand (just in case!), it was time to get the race underway. A fantastic effort was made from all of the teams with so much time and attention gone into the rafts not to mention the fancy dress to accompany the floating (mostly) vessels. With the sun shining and nice calm waters it was always going to be a close race, but in the end team “Dismantle” were victorious to take the win and be crowned Raft Race Champions 2016.
The event is organised and ran by ‘The Glengower’ pub situated on the prom. It’s not only a fantastic day for all of the family but also helps raise awareness for the fantastic work that the local RNLI do for Aberystwyth and the nearing towns. Over £450 was raised for the charity on race day which shows the great support from the local community.
Over the same weekend the Glengower hosted its annual beer festival featuring over a dozen real ales from near and far. A couple of popular beers turned out to be from Porthmadog’s Purple Moose brewery ‘Mountain Moose’ as well as ‘Battle of the Trees’ from CELT Experience Brewery in Caerphilly. It was great to see a record number of visitors to the event with local CAMRA members enjoying the vast array of beers on offer.
All in all the weekend was a huge success showing some great support for local events and local charities. Here’s to 2016 and let’s hope the sun is shining again!
